Listening to your favorite music while surfing the net can be a real treat. Online Radio! For music lovers it way enhances the time spent at your computer. We recently did a show on this very topic at Blogs and Social Networks online radio called Online Radio🙂 Listen in for even more online radio ideas.

Live365 and Jango – Find stations that play your favorites, not so much a “design your own” radio station, but a location search first. Live365 has an upgrade option for VIP membership but check it as a free member to see what you think of it. The navigator is very different from Jango and has less “fluff” and “bling” but more tabs. Both sites are easy to get around but each with a much different style. Jango comes complete with an embeddable Jukebox🙂

{March 28, 2009}   Health Social Networks

Health social networks are not extremely numerous, but are very helpful for those seeking to gain knowledge that their doctor may not be able to offer. Either time constraints or even lack of the newest information sometimes prevents your doctor from being able to fill you in on the details🙂

Health social networks do wonders to help inform and has an added bonus of actually interacting with others who are dealing with the same health challenges or who have already gone through it.

Myspace Graphics
Myspace Comments

Checking out a health social network in the waiting period of a test or just to find out more is such a blessing in this age of the Internet. Searching for specifics is often difficult. The time taken while sorting through the masses of results given when trying to locate helpful sites on, for instance, cancer, can be overwhelming. Going to a interactive social networking site focused health and wellness issues generally will gain far greater and more case specific search results.

While doing searches for these health related social networks, I noticed that they were actually few and far between with most being forum style set ups. These are useful as they allow interaction, but are also a bit limited and sometimes difficult to sort through a 1000 plus thread post topic. Which member of the forum posted the best information and will we then need to read through all 1000 plus posts to find our answer?

There were only a few health social networks that really stood out. One being Trusera. A recent event has left them in need of partners, but they will be alive and well until at least late April, 2009. Trusera is a true health related, topic oriented, information filled social network. Interacting with like members who are either going through or have been where others are now in their health challenges. Remaining anonymous is easy or you can choose to be as open as you wish while connecting in a social setting to find answers to your health questions or to offer up a health related experience of your own. Getting practical answers and insight from others just like yourself during stressful times is calming.

The power of having been there is incredible to someone who is currently “going through” a health related situation. The site for breast cancer that I found is a forum based interaction site to gain knowledge of side effects, get answers to your testing questions, treatment choices, and research information related specifically to breast cancer issues. comes complete with support and community connections.

WebMD is probably the most well known social type health network for not only finding and connecting with other people like you, but for the wealth of health related information at their fingertips. From blogs to message boards to being able to ask the experts, this health stockpile has it all covered. Discover links to other health issue sites, meet a multitude of individuals from all over the Internet, and get a peace of mind that only detailed knowledge can bring. WebMD has headline news, polls, a pill identifier, locate a doctor or hospital in your area, or browse through the health centers topic list to find the answers you are looking for.

Google Health, while not exactly a health social network is an outstanding resource for communicating your total health information to your newest doctor or at an emergency room visit to keep the physician aware of what treatments you are getting or have received in the past. This awareness is paramount especially if you are taking medication. Google Health allows it’s users to input securely their medical information from every individual hospital, doctor, or medical center, keeping all in one place to ensure the whole of it all gets to the eyes of each health care provider you encounter. A system like this absolutely will stop medication conflicts if filled in correctly and could head off problems before they can begin. Google Health puts you in charge of your health information safely, securely, and best of all it is free.

Locating other health social networks, forums, and information is easy when you know which search engine to use. Google has topic specific search engines as a starting point, but I found MedStory. A health information search engine currently in Beta testing. If you need more avenues than mentioned here, check into MedStory for more.

Updates at Live Journal:

With the Photo Bucket integration, now you can access all your photos without leaving Live Journal🙂

“What’s In a Name?” section located on the home page at Live Journal is pretty cool. Ever thought you have the very worst username? Find recently discarded usernames here for your Journal🙂

Join in on the Global dialogue at Global Views to discuss news and current events with Journalists from LJ International Partner Newspapers.

The biggest new info at present at LJ is there piece on Internet Safety called keeping your Journal Safe. A must read as the virus weirdness keeps on coming.

With 19.2 million journals and communities created since 1999, there is always something new at Live Journal🙂

Everyone seems to be going Facebook crazy and they either like the updated “real time” streams or they do not🙂 The real time stream of posts from your friends and connections has arrived so take a minute to control your streams if it get’s to be to “Twitter-esque” for you by adjusting the filters to the left on your log in home page or visit which is the link also on your log in Facebook home page. You have more control than you would think with these newest updates. You can control what friend streams and info you will actually see on your home page.

Publishing your own updates has gotten super simple with this new Facebook. Prompting in applications for instance as you send “virtual gifts”  to your friends to then publish this message in not only your profile and home pages, but also your friends🙂

Keeping track of birthdays was always fairly easy at Facebook, but now the What’s Going On Today area on the right hand top of your home page keeps you in the know about the events and birthdays today!

What this new streaming actually does is electrify the Google meter over at Facebook. With so many streams of so much of what’s going on, constantly publishing, it is very like merging Twitter, Facebook, Internet Gaming, with linkage and feeds from Blogs, Digg, the whole “All Roads Lead to Rome” theory … well, now, All Roads Lead to and From Facebook which then energizes the Google Ratings because of the amount of visible traffic (posting, publishing, sending of application invites, news, blog posts, feeds, etc.) Facebook has “Lit Up” the Internet sky when they switched on this newness🙂

Vox’s built in editor allows you to easily combine words, images, video and audio all in one little box to create brilliant posts every time. While the newness on Vox primarily is the tweaking of the old, they have quite the expert handle on it all with interactivity galore. While Blogger and WordPress are standard Blog Platform sites, Vox takes this Blog Platform to a Social Network level. Interactivity, friending, groups, Vox Hunt Challenges, Team Vox News, and Questions of the Day to prompt you out of any writers block that you may have. Keeping up with the Vox Team is as easy as visiting the site🙂

Blogger News:

Straight from comes news of the Plinky prompts to alleviate the craziness of Bloggers Block or more commonly refered to as writers block🙂 Plinky gives you a prompt to write (much like the Question of the Day over at Vox:) A question or challenge for you to answer and actually Share your Media on Facebook and Twitter!!!

P2 The New Prologue reinvents what it means to “Group Blog” with live notifications, comments in the home page, in-line editing (you never need to refresh and rarely need to visit your dashboard:). P2 is great for school projects, groups, as a class, etc. Check out the WordPress Blog for more on this new theme. “Just Another WordPress Blog”.

February brought a Live Journal import tool, threaded comments, and launched Buddy Press, a set of WordPress MU (multi-user) plugins that transforms a MU install into a social network platform. For newspapers, magazines, Universities, Blog Networks, and such🙂

Post to a later date of course is a feature at WordPress with statistics right now on your personal log in home page🙂

Every site changes, whether they add to or take away, the site managers hone, test, and challenge themselves into bettering their particular Blogs and Social Networks sites🙂

Here are some of the newest changes we found on:

Google’s GMail:

Picasa, YouTube, Flicker, and Yelp previews of photos, videos, and reviews instead of  just links, directly in your email!

You’ve all heard the joke “You Can’t “Unsend” an Email?” Well guess again! Google has ursurped the impossible yet again with an option for giving yourself a grace period after clicking that send button🙂 Edit and resend.

GMail offline! Yes, use GMail even when you are not connected to the net🙂 and with Tasks Mobile you can take it all with you.

There are (at last look:) 42 current, crazy, lab experiment choices. Something for everyone to try.

The name is fairly new as they were originally Utterz but now Utterli. The same awesome podcasting social network!

The newer happenings at Utterli are a discontinue of the Free International Dial in numbers. Utterli is currently working on a solution at present but this feature has come to be too expensive.

A Desktop Application is now available on Ubuntu if you use the Ubuntu Amazon Services.

Group Calling and Video Processing have also been introduced this year.

Trusera is a brilliantly designed Health Social Network in need of partners. In our search for Haelth Social Networks, we found no real competion here with Trusera, so investors Take a Peek🙂 At present, what are the investor options? Here is an option🙂

YouTube in High Definition! Yes, watch your favorite videos in HD!

Try out Collaborative Annotations for your videos. YouTube launched annotations in June of 2008 where you can add text, blurbs, speech bubbles to your uploaded videos. Now, you can invite anyone you like to create speech bubbles, notes, and spotlights on your videos too🙂 Find this info on the home page of YouTube in the lower right hand Collaborative Annotations link (this takes you to YouTubes blog site:)

Be crowned “Best Dunker” with your presented video. YouTube Slam Dunk with a judging panel of NBA All Star and Olympic Gold Medalist Chris Bosh, Fab 5 Member and NBA Pro Jalen Rose, and the Worlds hottest dunk crew, Team Flight Brothers.

Watch video on Windows Mobile and Nokia S60 phones. While YouTube has been available for many mobile phones for over a year, you can check the newest additions at YouTubes Blog.

Blogs and Social Networks

Stevie and Stephanie Haile aka Blogheiress and Wavecritter Google Us🙂

We wanted to venture into the realm of “In The News” Blogs and Social Networks. Actually a difficult subject to search on the net. What you get with searching for Blogs and Social Networks that contain “News” are which Blog platforms or Social Networks Are In The News🙂

Many Blogs and Social Networks that we came across were mostly “Second Hand News” but, in reality, if you aren’t On The Sceen reporting as it happens, all news is somewhat that🙂

For the best in “Weather News”, we found for all you land based weather junkies out there (like me🙂, If you are a boater, maybe not (this is NOAA🙂, but for land based dwellers who want to meet and greet other weather buffs, this is the place🙂 Upload photos, videos, create blogs, visit the forum, and make friends. Coolies to Fox for creating a Weather News Social Network where you can get your extended forecast, favorite blog posts, set a featured weather photo, get weather questions answered on Tropical Weather, Storm Chasing, Climate Change, Weather Around the World, Read Weather stories or post your own! Complete with a Meebo Chat! Getting News and views from Meteorologists, seasoned Weather Announcers, Bloggers, and Regular Joes🙂

A different “take” on a News site is🙂 A site for your Gaming Avatar (from the perspective of the Avatar, not your personal perspective🙂 so, if you want the skinny on what Avatars are doing in game, check it out🙂

How about some sites for Real Headline News🙂 USA Todays Community Connecting Readers to Reporting (easy to set up a profile here and free), is a very fast site for both navigation and uploading photos or profile adjustments. Hop right over to the main USA Today page to comment on or recommend an article and one click away to the Blogs area! They make it easy to add favorites Blog Titles to your home page and widgets🙂 The most popular headline widget is nice! USA Today also offers a “Green News” widget for climate and weather headlines, both of which I put I placed on the front page of my new site for news, a place to “See” the Headline News at a glance using the very coolest of widgets, so you know which News is what you want to read🙂 If you need a dose of or want to scan the headlines, stop by🙂 Links to all the main In The News sites🙂

USA Today Community also offers free to use widgets for Finance, Celeb Watch with Will Keck, USA Today Sports Headlines, Politics, Pop Candy with Whitney Matheson for the latest News and Trends in Music, TV, Books, Video, Movies, Celebrity Interviews and finding the best sites. There’s Today in the Sky with Ben Mutzabaugh for airline news and Top Travel Stories, so, an incredible selection of In The News widgets for your Blogs and Social Networks at USA Today Community🙂 These widgets work with PageFlakes, iGoogle, Facebook, TypePad, NetVibe, Blogger, MySpace, and sites like🙂

My main motivation for creating this blog style social network In The News viewing site was because it was so difficult to find social networks that were for people who wanted differing News stories from different broadcasters all in one glance🙂 I find it nice to have all the Headlines in one spot, then be able to click to view the stories I want to read more of. Spending time actually reading instead of searching🙂

While is not a social network (well, not yet anyway) the following for this blog is huge because people want to know the Technology News, Internet News, and ideas over at Mashable🙂 is the network for Technology proffessionals with newsletters, products, and special offers is something for techies to see! Applications and Internet Development, Job Functions and Occupations, Information Technology, Linux News, E Commerce Guides, WeboPedia Daily, Database Journal, Server Watch, Hardware Central, Sharky Extreme, BlackBerry Today,  and Wifi Planet are just a few of the newsletters and special offers you have a choice of when you sign up with

{February 28, 2009}   Genealogy Social Networks Part 3 charges a fee, but I found it worth mentioning here. The Jefferson-Hemmings case built on DNA testing and published in 1998 was one of the catalysts of what later became the field of Genetic genealogy. So, does your DNA match the Jefferson line? A lot of people are taking the DNA Genealogy highway these days.

cgar is Cool!!! Americas first immigration center, Castle Garden offers free access to an extraordinary database of information on 10 million immigrants from 1830 through 1892 (the year Ellis Island opened). Over 73 million Americans can trace their ancestry to Ellis Island, now go further! Castle Garden hosts 10 million records! {February 27, 2009}   Genealogy Social Networks Part 2

Onto RootsWeb powered by🙂 I would say that this is probably one of the very top Genealogy/Heraldry sites out there and free to sign up to check it out with an upgrade option. You can sign up at,, or to create a site for your family to keep up with events, what’s new, photo’s, video’s, and a big bonus feature of sharing uploaded files! That is a very nice feature here🙂 And, of course, create a family tree🙂 This site is a bit different in that it’s focus seems to be photos and it allows site tagging or keywords.

Most Genealogy Family sites allow for private or public settings and has this feature as well. also has the choice of public or private sites with the click of a button. My Heritage has a video and photo area, a family tree creation section, and the “big Star” here (when it is completed) is the calendar! Much like a Google type Calendar system to include all of the family events! In the new video and photo sections of My Heritage, they have included the bonus of photo tagging much like Facebook has. As photos are entered, others can “tag” a photo with a person. Like, this photo is of Randy Ferris🙂 Neato! is your link to the past if you are hunting for your American or Canadian ancestors or your Immigrant ancestors. Free searchable genealogy transcriptions are at your fingertips at Olive Tree Genealogy created by Lorine McGinnis Shulze. Easy to navigate with helpful tutorials to get you your information from the site and help if your new to Genealogy! Thanks Lorine! Search all transcriptions by State, Year, or Keyword. This is a must visit site for Genealogy family History buffs🙂 While searching for ancestors the census information will be a bit limited but a great starting point or a great place to get “leads” to other branches n your tree.

Libraries of States like the NY State Library site. These type sites are Internet bibliographies; housing biographies, Genealogy Resources, Cemetary info, Census links, and much more relevant to the region especially.

From the Yahoo or Google search directories, type in US State Libraries. I have done that for you here and you can arrive directly at that search term by clicking the links here.

Or, visit for State Library links. Valuable links for Family Tree Creators and Genealogy History seekers!

I am not a huge fan of the standard “Bookmark” system on the PC, I use it, but actually locating my saved sites after a while, well… let’s say … I generally lose them lol🙂

I came up with a way to house and remember what links go to which sites🙂 Use a free blog platform (I use to hold all of the sites on a particular topic (like Genealogy). If you have a screen capture device this works best because you can hyper-link the photo to the cooresponding site but now you have a visual of the site you saved to better remember where you are going and actually why you saved that site at all. This too gives any visitors to your newly created “storage” blog or site the helpful advantage of not having to go searching for these “on topic” sites. Here they are! Anytime I research a given topic, if it is a big one, I create a wiki to house it all🙂

One more Genealogy post to come in this series guys🙂

Genealogy is such a time intensive, exciting, historical adventure and it seems to be a very popular quest for families to find their history.

We are listing some of the free to sign up and use Genealogy social networks, blogs, and other sites to help you in your Internet searchings to get your family tree filled up. Many of these sites also have an upgraded version, but always go free first, then if you just can’t live without the upgrades and you are sure this is the site for you, then consider it or jump right in🙂

Groups at MySpace and Facebook are also a place to network with and locate information or other lost cousins or people who know them. These groups have an abundance of link information as well to assure that you never run out of family “leads” or come to a dead end “)

Facebook has many Genealogy groups but one stood out (over 5,000 members) International Genealogy. With resource links for global searches to genetic research, making contacts, getting started (for the very new even🙂, Military and Religious records, Census information and much more. A definite useful resource for Family Histories. A tutorial group for beginners is listed here as well.

The group that stood out over at MySpace was called Genealogy. This group has a healthy forum for surnames and a list of good genealogy site links.

How about some great existing blog sites on Genealogy? We found Cyndis List of Genealogy Sites on the Net🙂 Cyndi has a major list of relevant sites to help you on your way through your families genealogy.

Where to go to find a great “Create My Family Tree” sort of site online? I began my journey at which is a free family tree maker site and is “medium” for me in the “happy navigation” meter but could rate higher for you as everyones “happy” is very different where navigating sites are concerned🙂

For example, I prefer Wetpaint sites over Ning (as a creator of these sorts of sites) but others prefer Ning over Wetpaint🙂 as far as navigating the construction and even navigating as a visitor. Speaking of the Wetpaint and Ning sites, we found a few very good examples of Genealogy networks that you could either join or for an example to start your own🙂

At Ning: GenMates

Dead Fred Genealogy Photo Archive

At Wetpaint:

This is our family site (we just began construction, so a work in progress🙂

Wisconsin State Genealogical Society Inc

The Bookworm Choctaw County Public Library

Keywords can be very important when creating a “public” site. You will open a highway for Genealogy historians like yourself to actually find You! instead of always being the one on the lookout, people will be able to seek you out given the right set of keywords for your sites. Choose a base 5 keywords first that you will always use on most every post, article, or photo. Use your Last Name, Full Name, the words Genealogy, Family Tree, and your region ie: Germany, USA, Virginia, Bolster County. Possible less work for you searching alone can turn into others seeking an finding you🙂

Visit to search for more Genealogy sites. When I used this, I did not get any sites, but when I switched to searching for posts by clicking the post button, I found quite a few on the last name Haile🙂 is  The Cemetery Blog a Free Online Library of burial records from thousands of cemeteries across the World for historical and Genealogy research, thanks to Steve Johnson and Maggie Rail. We have the Worlds cemeteries at our fingertips here.

Many more sites for Genealogy enthusiasts coming in our next post right here at🙂

I found a few recent studies in my travels around the net on statistics for Bloggers🙂 Of course, not all the same types of people blog but statistically bloggers are largely male🙂 and it seems that more than half have an income of over $75,000 annually. 42% of bloggers today have attended graduate school🙂

More than half of bloggers out there now are currently on their (at least) second blog site, blog, or platform.  (I am as well), but more than half have been blogging for two or more years too (like me ).

I find these statistics interesting but they will soon change as the blogging explosion has arrived and is growing in numbers by the minute.

One of the largest categories of Blog Types is really the Topic Type blog. I think mainly because this subject encompasses such a large arena. Bloggers who are into History could Topic Blog about Historians, Americans, Europe, The Romans, Greeks, or Isreals History. I have compiled a list of sorts of ideas for Blog Titles and Topic Types:

“The Inner Workings of Techno”

Tables and Chairs”

The Science of Sociology” (Astronomy, Physics, etc.)

“Egypt and It’s Tombs”

“How Does It Work?”

“Things That Are Round”

“Writing Utensils”

“Types of Blogs”

“Felines and Their Ways”

“Berries” Check Out for one on this🙂

“The Blues”

Write your passion. Write what you love, find interesting, or for that matter what you want to learn more about🙂 This could be a topic blog on your adventures into learning something that you would like to know. This is how blogging started for me. I needed more information on a certain topic and wanted a “holding area” to keep everything I learned as it is often difficult to find “saved” bookmarks in your own files if they are a bit crowded LOL🙂 Wetpaint Wikis are an awesome holding type topic blog site as is WordPress here.

Enjoy your blogging🙂

{February 22, 2009}   Blogs – Types of Blogs

Having made step by step videos on How To navigate and use different blog platforms and How To use the blogging areas on some of the big social networks like MySpace, Facebook, and My Yearbook,  but then … what do you write about?

Types of Blogs You Can Create🙂

Topic Blogs – Actually this site is a “Topic” blog, so is, but these two are also a How To blog as well. Any broad, general, global, town related subject whether it’s a “World” blog or just a State, your topic can be Animals in the World (broad topic) or Primates in the Jungle (a bit more narrow) or Chimps in the NY Zoo (very specific🙂 Americans is a great topic as well, Ben Franklin for example. You could post about him for a whole month, then next month post on George Washington🙂

Topic blogs have such a diverse inclusion like Fashion, Travel, Dreams, My Trip, Educational Institutions, Cats, etc. Many choices here. Write what you love🙂

Salesy Web Site Blogs – Sites that look a Christmas Sale at the Mall with Flashy Banners, Sales Fluff around every corner. These do attract attention to some and may work for you.

Photo Sites – A great Photo style blog can be found at but it is any chosen photo you select to “be” the blog and add a line or few of explanation or interest, location … etc. to your picture🙂

Journal Blogs – A great example of a journal style blog is or Stevies blog is a journal style, write as you sort of story teller or what’s up with my day or life type blog🙂

VLogs or Video Blogs – Of course the best place to see a VLog is at a Video Social Network at someones profile page like me🙂 I have a bunch of friends there that have very different styles of VLogs too which are easy to find at YouTube, like a musician style where they play and take videos of either them on stage or create a story video to go with their songs; “Let’s Talk” sort of videos, How To, Real Life, and more.

Explanation or Definition Blogs – These are quite similar to the How To style blogs but are mostly like a Wikipedia style topic blog that gives a detailed explanation with examples🙂 They don’t need to be using the Wikipedia platform of course, but this one on Blog is a good example. A really great Explanation blog will have many resource links to other relevant posts or sites.

Review Blogs – These are usually quite helpful blogs in general as you can open up several and see what different views there are out there on any given iten, topic, company, laundry soap lol, or whatever you are looking for opinions on. To write this style blog you will need to have more than an idea of the subject. If you do a review site on restaraunts for example, you would be a person who frequently visits new restaraunts and has a grasp of a great dining out experience with out being hyper critical. Point out the pros and cons so to speak🙂 If you write a review style blog, you could link to the items that you review for more link backs, information, or to monetize your site if these are your items on Amazon or EBay.

List Blogs – This is a fun way to blog. 7 ways to bake a cake, 11 types of tennis shoes, 8 reasons why you should exercise, 100 favorite songs of the year, the top 5 social networks, etc. With a list style blog, you can start a post with the original list, then take each (#1, #2, etc.) and make an in depth post on each number, it will get you a whole series of posts and help you with your posts🙂

Group, Team, or Company Style Blogs – A site for any specific organization, group or team. This type of blog is geared toward your members of the company, pack, sports organization, guild, or party to get information out to them. A communication type blog just for a specific sector of people.

Most blogs fall into one or more (or a subset) of these categories, but as categories go, they could be sub divided into many, many more smaller or specific types like with the Topic Blog especially🙂

Lokking at the list of blog types that WordPress has will help you as well. This list will keep you clear of the No-No Types of Blogs to create🙂

Have fun with your blog and write what you are passionate about or you may not be blogging long out of boredom🙂

Checking into MyBlogLog and Zimbio will get you some additonal blog attention!

I thought that the definition of Genealogy (I looked it up on would be appropriate here🙂

–noun, plural -gies.

a record or account of the ancestry and descent of a person, family, group, etc.

the study of family ancestries and histories.

descent from an original form or progenitor; lineage; ancestry.

Biology. a group of individuals or species having a common ancestry: The various species of Darwin’s finches form a closely knit genealogy.

1250–1300; ME genealogie < MF < LL geneālogia < Gk geneālogíagene race (see gene ) + -logia -logy

pedigree, equiv. to

This is a good place to start🙂

Then we ventured over to some major social networks like Facebook and MySpace to see how many groups they had over there specific to certain families and groups:

Our friend Kathy Paquette had recently joined a group for the “Paquettes” which I thought was a brilliant idea. If you have family that you are searching for, look into joining an existing group at a major social network or start your own group. Here are a few groups for the Paquettes we found at Facebook:

I searched for a Haile group as well🙂 No luck there, maybe I will start one in the future (If anyone starts one, let me know:)

Onto Genealogy topic groups at Facebook:

There are over 5,000 members in this group. Other groups have been started at Facebook as well for Genealogy but this seems to be the biggest one. They offer connectivity for individuals excited about finding their family histories. Included resource links for across the Globe, Census, Military, and more.

To find a whole bunch of cool free clip art just for Genealogy sites visit I don’t have the family tree info up and complete yet🙂 but I do have a huge list of the easiets to get to and navigate Genealogy clip art sites and coolness out there🙂

The My Heritage Family Tree Builder (free download🙂 is a cool tool for getting your layout going and tree constructed! The My Heritage site has a whole bunch of great Genealogy info as well🙂

A Genealogy group at MySpace (has almost 5,000 members🙂 where you can search for people by surname, post an alert bulletin to get some information and find some great sites linked here🙂

{January 30, 2009}   Rearrange Your MySpace Music List

With all of the new and exciting changes and “tweaks” going on over at MySpace, I wanted to touch on the reordering or rearranging of your coolie, the music playlist🙂 Since the widget at Project Playlist has been basically “shut down” and not allowed at MySpace, the use of the actual MySpace music player has emerged as the front runner for music expression even among listeners. Musicians had been using the MySpace music widget predominately but a large percentage of listeners were using the Project Playlist widget instead. (A brilliant music site by the way🙂

But, let’s discover how to reorder your music selections on MySpace playlists🙂

Ok, if I wanted to change up this playlist, I would right click the song (just about where the red arrow is located) hold it for a second while dragging it in the order I wanted it to show up.

I just changed up the order of the last two songs from the Crash Test Dummies (great band🙂 in my playlist …

Log into MySpace, click on Music, then click on My Music, My Public Playlists, My Profile Playlist. This is how you will get to the screen you see above🙂 Reorder the music by dragging and dropping, add songs you find by browsing by clicking the plus signs, a drop down for lists choice will come, if you want it on your sites playlist, choose “My Profile Playlist”.

Browse the featured playlists for some quick popular song choices🙂

Blogs and Social Networks

We often hear the word “focus” in the same context as blogging instruction but what does it really mean and who does it really mean it for?

Focus in the blogging platform or social networking world refers to shooting toward reaching your “target” audience. Who would you like to visit your social networks and read your blog sites? What demographic? Now, why would the blogs and social networks person care who came to visit? Marketing to be precise.

If a blogger is marketing a particular product, they would then care very much who came to see their sites. For example) If your product was a health and wellness sort of “Vitamin” product, then a “Get Healthy or “Stay Healthy” sort of blog would hit the nail on the head to some degree. What if the product is “Vitamin D”? Then focus would get you to a site much more focused on bone health instead of overall health.

Who else would want to focus their sites? If you aren’t marketing a product but would like to gain a high rating with Google, become an expert, or just have a very popular site full of specific information, then focus is for you🙂

Do Stevie and Stephanie at Blogs and Social Networks focus? I can’t say that we do actually🙂 Encompassing the entire subject of Blogs and Social Networks (and not that we even come close to hitting every site) is not really a very focused, specific topic. To hold true to many blogging platforms, we have many blogs specifically geared towards Blogs and Social Networks and are members of multiple social networks. It is rather a broad subject area but holds a great example of what it means to go smaller from it and more focused.

Blogs and Social Networks …

Social Networks That Have Blog Capability …

MySpace and Facebook …

Or You could go from Blogs and Social Networks …

to Blogs about Social Networks …

then onto blogs about MySpace and Facebook …

or to be less focused, blogs about the major social networks.

Recall why we focus again, to appeal to a group who will more likely be interested in our topics, information, and offers.

Sometimes focus is not important. A very wide spectrum blog works quite well and attracts visitors. The blog remains on a subject, but a very wide subject much like Blogs and Social Networks or Video Games and Gaming. Again, with Video Games and Gaming, this can become much more focused a topic …

Video Games and Gaming …

Console Games …

Wii Games …

Wii Fit Games …

Or you can choose to create sub sections (or pages) of your blog (or create a wiki at wetpaint) to house focused topics like this but name your blog a wider topic name.

Once the understanding of why a blogger is told to focus comes into … well … errr … “focus” … then it becomes clear whether or not you actually should decide to look into it all or not. Are you trying to reach a “target” audience? or do you just want to be sure that your writings are helping whoever searches that info out?

With searches, keywords really take the drivers seat here. How do visitors actually find what you have? Think about your tags, labels and keywords (all one in the same, with just a different name at different blog site platforms) What will those ask who wish to find your answers? How you label and categorize your posts matters greatly to the seeker of your posts. If you have a post on How To Make Ice Cream, then your top keywords probably should be: Ice Cream, Ice Cream How To, How To Make Ice Cream, Frozen Desserts, and Dessert Recipes. Then add your name or alias (Stephanie Haile aka Wavecritter) (author title) as another keyword, you could use the blog platform as another if you wished (ie: WordPress, Blog Talk Radio, Blogger) and then peruse through your post for a few select keyword phrases running together in the text and standing out. Use these as well (In this post it would be “Blogging instruction” blogging Platform” or Social Networking”). There you go, you just greatly assisted your visitors in arriving at your information🙂

However much you really wish to focus on your blogs and social networks in this manner is entirely up to you … do remember that every person is unique, every blog is unique, and every social network is unique and that each has it’s own attractions for a reason … they are all different🙂 Cookie cutter is not generally the way to go to become different, although you could begin with the design and “color” or “decorate” it however you like🙂

With a very focused blog site, focused right from the creation date on , you will need to think about where to actually get the word out or “effectively market” this site. Groups (first and foremost) in the social networking communities are the number one best places to market an on topic blog. Probably placing a link on a Gardening blog in a group on fishing is not going to be your first choice group🙂 But, possible the people at the fishing group are also interested in gardening as well and it may do some good🙂 Seek out the gardening groups to introduce your gardening blog to first though🙂

Your keywords will be the “behind the scenes” marking engine for you while you manually market your site to and through other Blogs and Social Networks sites. Getting backlinks is quite easy. Log into your blog platform (ie: WordPress, Blogspot, Vox, Livejournal …) then browse through other blog sites on the same platform, either on your topic or on another, comment on their posts as you view some sites. Each comment you leave (while logged in) will send a link back to your site via the “icon” or username info left on the comment🙂 Nope, you don’t really need to “rely” on friends to actually list you on their blogroll.

Use your blog URL as part of every bio, info, or profile area on all of your social networks and think about securing a clever domain name for your blog site🙂 I chose , .com , , .org , and .net for our main blog platforms (Wetpaint, WordPress, Blog Talk Radio, and Blogspot). One is fine, there is no need to get all (info, com, net, etc) this way when you redirect the domain to your blog URL, it is now a much easier name to remember. is easier (I hope lol) than for instance.

These are some good tips, we will be writing some more soon. Stay tuned for Blogs And Social Networks
