Everyone seems to be going Facebook crazy and they either like the updated “real time” streams or they do not ๐Ÿ™‚ The real time stream of posts from your friends and connections has arrived so take a minute to control your streams if it get’s to be to “Twitter-esque” for you by adjusting the filters to the left on your log in home page or visit which is the link also on your log in Facebook home page. You have more control than you would think with these newest updates. You can control what friend streams and info you will actually see on your home page.

Publishing your own updates has gotten super simple with this new Facebook. Prompting in applications for instance as you send “virtual gifts”ย  to your friends to then publish this message in not only your profile and home pages, but also your friends ๐Ÿ™‚

Keeping track of birthdays was always fairly easy at Facebook, but now the What’s Going On Today area on the right hand top of your home page keeps you in the know about the events and birthdays today!

What this new streaming actually does is electrify the Google meter over at Facebook. With so many streams of so much of what’s going on, constantly publishing, it is very like merging Twitter, Facebook, Internet Gaming, with linkage and feeds from Blogs, Digg, the whole “All Roads Lead to Rome” theory … well, now, All Roads Lead to and From Facebook which then energizes the Google Ratings because of the amount of visible traffic (posting, publishing, sending of application invites, news, blog posts, feeds, etc.) Facebook has “Lit Up” the Internet sky when they switched on this newness ๐Ÿ™‚

{January 30, 2009}   Rearrange Your MySpace Music List

With all of the new and exciting changes and “tweaks” going on over at MySpace, I wanted to touch on the reordering or rearranging of your coolie, the music playlist ๐Ÿ™‚ Since the widget at Project Playlist has been basically “shut down” and not allowed at MySpace, the use of the actual MySpace music player has emerged as the front runner for music expression even among listeners. Musicians had been using the MySpace music widget predominately but a large percentage of listeners were using the Project Playlist widget instead. (A brilliant music site by the way ๐Ÿ™‚

But, let’s discover how to reorder your music selections on MySpace playlists ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, if I wanted to change up this playlist, I would right click the song (just about where the red arrow is located) hold it for a second while dragging it in the order I wanted it to show up.

I just changed up the order of the last two songs from the Crash Test Dummies (great band ๐Ÿ™‚ in my playlist …

Log into MySpace, click on Music, then click on My Music, My Public Playlists, My Profile Playlist. This is how you will get to the screen you see above ๐Ÿ™‚ Reorder the music by dragging and dropping, add songs you find by browsing by clicking the plus signs, a drop down for lists choice will come, if you want it on your sites playlist, choose “My Profile Playlist”.

Browse the featured playlists for some quick popular song choices ๐Ÿ™‚

Whooo …. the numerous choices out there in the application and widget world! This is great for those who can choose a manageable number of the coolest ones that suit them ๐Ÿ™‚ And then …. there are those (ummm like me ๐Ÿ™‚ that just “Need” to have that one more MySpace and Facebook widget Application because my friends get excited about them or I find them clever beyond belief ๐Ÿ™‚ I thought I would let you in on some of the widgets that just too clever, some of the applications that are very non time consuming, some that take a bit of time, and then those that are just so cool that you don’t really care that they glue you to the computer every day to make sure your Application is up to date ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s start with the easiest, less time consumers of the MySpace and Facebook Application and Widget World:

Once installed and set up, Superlatives, SuperPoke, Stickers, Hug Me, Hatching Eggs, Growing Plants, SuperWall, Movies, SuperHug, TagMe, and Optical Illusion of the Day are a short list of the easiest, quickest to use widgets and applications.

Superlatives, SuperPoke, Hugs, and TagMe are quick little graphics to say “hi”, “throw a cake at” , “wish a happy birthday to”, or just about anything you could think of as a witty fast way to give a shout to your friends :)Some of these can be found at both MySpace and Facebook (even at MyYearbook) and some at one or the other.

The SuperWall and Stickers are ways to post funny quips, quotes, and sayings that your friends can share and then post to their own “Cork Boards” (the holding and display area for the stickers) or on their own Walls as a video, photo, or other blog type post. These can be found at both MySpace, MyYearbook, and Facebook.

The Growing Plants and Hatching Eggs Application is one of the most clever “not much time needed” applications I have found yet. Once the intial set up is complete, the maintenance is very minimal and it only takes a minute to send creative growing or hatching hiyas out to all of your friends at Facebook.

The applications at Facebook take much less time to “send out” to all of your Facebook friends verses sending out the same or similar “hiyas” to your MySpace friends becasue of the individually sent to each friend captcha deal over at MySpace. At MyYearbook, the high fives, gifts, and stars take very little time to dole out as well.

The “Lunch Money Owned” application widget coolie started at MyYearBook actually ๐Ÿ™‚ The applications at Facebook have been going strong for some time and MySpace just recently incorporated these fun little addition widgets into their set up. With the Owned Application, you purchase with “Lunch Money” your friends photos gaining popularity and expense as you buy and sell. Every time you log in you also gain extra lunch money that you can use to send “presents” to your friends as well. I would place this one in the mid range for time consumption as you will want to keep up with who has purchased your friends out from under you ๐Ÿ™‚

Some other choice mid range time users in the Facebook Applications, MySpace and MyYearBook widgets include: The Little Blue Cove, Dog World, SuperPoke Pets, and Lil Green Patch could fall into the “very time consuming” range but only if you are extremely diligent in these ๐Ÿ™‚ You can certainly have a great time with these applications and keep them in the mid time taker range ๐Ÿ™‚ The premise of these fun little widgets is you get a pet, garden, or fish tank of sorts with virtual critters, flora, and aquatic swimmers ๐Ÿ™‚ You take care of your set up and your friends as you visit around to see what they have created with these individual applications ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, onto the “Big Dog” time suckers but are too fun to stop playing (yes, these Facebook Applications MySpace Widgets and MyYearbook deals can become addiciting lol ๐Ÿ™‚ include, but are not limited to: MyFarm, Mob Wars, Pirates: Rule the Caribbean, Vampire Wars, Networked Blogs (but only in the set up, once you have your blogs listed … this app gets off and running almost on its own), Sorority Life (Stevies Fav!) Ohhhh … Hook up with us on this one at MySpace :)…hehehe ๐Ÿ™‚ Stevie is my Top Friend, easy to find that way ๐Ÿ™‚ ….

Just keep in mind, the more Applictaions you add, the more time they tend to take ๐Ÿ™‚ So, choose wisely and well and be sure to have fun with the choices you make … ohhhhhh and add us if its a “Party” application ๐Ÿ™‚ Talk soon and CU at MySpace, Facebook, and MyYearbook!!!

With the ever changing Internet morphing and transforming in the blink of an eye, the sights, sounds and flavors online of the specific social networks won’t be left out of the wave. MySpace and Facebook have certainly included themselves in the update arena of blogs and social networks.

To compare and contrast the two largest social networks, all the while keeping up to date with the newest updates and features is an exciting roller coaster of events. While MySpace and Facebook are not the only two social networking sites on the block, they hold the top spots in this category.

In the personal interface area at MySpace, not the profile layout for your visitors to view, but the “for your eyes only” section, you can now customize the layout or background to a healthy selection of colors and styles. The individual modules can also be relocated and moved around to suit your ease of viewing them any way you would like or just close the ones you do not need altogether.

MySpace has a good selection of the new CSS 2.0 layouts as well for your visitors eyes on your profile page. The staggering amount of CSS 2.0 layout choices at the numerous MySpace layout sites will certainly allow the flare and personality of individuals everywhere to express their profile page and astound their guests. The new CSS 2.0 change is extremely easy to learn, so the switch over will be no problem. The tutorials furnished will assist with any troubles you may encounter.

Facebook has some updates as well in their personal interface area. Facebook has a cleaner feel and it is easier to see your friends news feeds, status updates, photos, and posted items all designed and navigated by the new tab system. Facebook has a shout out “Twitter Style” capability that MySpace does not yet have as you are able to comment on your friends shout outs as they make them. A shout out is just a little blurb of how you feel or what your are doing at that given time or moment, like “Going to the Store”, “BBL” (be back later), “Major Headache”, or “At Work, Saying Hi”. While MySpace has a mini shout out with no comment feature, they do have an emoticon “Mood” feature that is not incorporated into the Facebook shout out. Facebooks emoticon “Mood” feature is offered as an application widget through the “Top Friends” application and others.

Facebook has prided itself on it’s privacy features since it’s inception and it actually “feels” more private when you are venturing around the profiles, groups, and featured pages. There has been much media on the virus filled applications in the mid part of 2008, but with the onset of 2009, people are still flocking in droves over to blog social network Facebook.

MySpace is geared towards senses stimulation with it’s color oriented layouts, music with it’s many band sites, and video broadcastings. You hear MySpace and read Facebook it seems. I believe that is a big draw to both sites. The “fluff” at MySpace being the deco, diapason, dress, and design and at Facebook, the big calling is association, art, academia, and applications.

The chat features at each social network are quite different. MySpace has their IM extraordinaire but the Facebook chat is a great deal less appealing because first you need to be on and logged into the social network in order to actually use their chat feature. Whereas the MySpace IM (instant messenger) is a separate system. There is no need to be logged into the social network at all to chat and the mobile IM is quite handy.

The customization of interface levels makes Facebook seem more private, but both social networks have a great deal of privacy or not very much at all depending on your personal settings. Individual privacy settings for personal information and for each application you choose to allow at each social network. While Facebook was the first to have outside applications available on their profile areas, MySpace has stepped up to bat on the application game and introduced a huge selection.

The thought of “Poking” your friends seems so ’06 anymore compared to the Pirates, GreenSpot, MyFarm, or SuperPoke applications users are crowding to add to their own profile pages today.

For MySpace users who have switched over to the new CSS 2.0 layouts, to add your applications to your profile area and show them off on your visitors page just click the “Profile” drop down to the “Customize Profile” link, then click the “Applications” button on the left, and highlight to add which applications you would like to show for your viewers.

While both blog social networks, and I call them blog networks because each has a prominent blogging community, have pronounced and visual updates, the attractions to both social networks are numerous and wide spread. Whether you choose to become a MySpacer, Facebooker, or both is ultimately your decision. Enjoy the ride.

Tonights show was brilliant fun as we covered the coolest Christmas MySpace graphic, layout, and comments sites out there on the net ๐Ÿ™‚

Now, we all say “MySpace” graphics and layouts, but included in the mix is Hi5, Friendster, MyYearBook, Ning, Bebo and many more social networks.

We went over the “What’s With the 2.0 MySpace” layouts with a bit of how to, tips, and suggestions to get you headed in the right direction. Tom at MySpace has it all covered with the step by steps (Kudos!) but a few more helpful hints will make you feel like a pro before you dive in with both feet to the CSS 2.0 version of MySpace ๐Ÿ™‚

Listen into our show for tips on 2.0 and which sites will be best to search for what comments, graphics, and layouts for MySpace, Ning, Friendster, Hi5, Tagged, and more ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, first site we discussed tonight was They have just updated their Christmas graphics section on December 1st. Free Code Source has animated, dolls, posters, icons, banners, mini banners, non-animated, contact tables and glitter graphics categories ๐Ÿ™‚

Free Code source has the new MySpace 2.0 layouts, Friendster, and Hi 5 layouts as well with 69 different Christmas layouts for MySpace with a great variety between pages. Tropical Christmas, wrapping paper, ornate bling, cabinesque, many selections here at Free Code Source. The thing I found cool here was I had the choice to get the full layout, standard profile 1.0 code, or just the background ๐Ÿ™‚

Another brilliant site we discussed tonight was A great selection (over 46 pages!) of Christmas comment graphics. The huge draw to visit Spakle Tags is the voting system they have set up on their graphics. Kudos to Sparkle Tags for getting user input! This way, Sparkle tags can see what’s popular and stay on the trend of what the visitors are actually using and enjoying, not just slapping pages and endless pages (that we as users have to sift through) of not so great graphics ๐Ÿ™‚ is innovative in that and thanks go out to them ๐Ÿ™‚

Reverse Social Networking

Blogs and Social Networks Move Over MySpace and Facebook

Move over MySpace and Facebook, people are starting to lose the โ€œtasteโ€ for the really big Social Networks and want to โ€œHave it Their Wayโ€, you know, hold the pickle, a bit more ketchup, but in this caseโ€ฆ Lets turn a โ€œHuge Groupโ€ from MySpace or Facebook into a Social Network! Instead of visiting a Mass Social Network to find your group, you will either create your own Group Social Network or join an existing one centered around your interest!Sort of โ€œReverse Social Networkingโ€ but if you give it some thought, it is really the way it was going in the beginning. Take a look at how Forum sites got started, by topic, by a group of like minded individuals, seekers of conversation )The Forum would usually cover a broad topic and each conversation or โ€œthreadโ€ would then funnel the topic down to a more specific conversation title. Well, thats whats happening and with a Bang at the Blog Social Networks like Ning and Wetpaint!

People are gathering all of their chosen โ€œcolored blocksโ€ from the Internet bin and putting them all in a handy sorting tank set up as a Blog Social Network. What am I saying about these bin blocks? Each category or โ€œcolorโ€ block, sorted out into music, sports, business, photography, art, beach lovers, snowmen, or any topic really is either kept as a large category or narrowed down even further into sub categories. All blue blocks for instance, or all sky blue blocks. Sub categories could include things like a specific band or music style, a type of health and wellness business, a site for marketing or a site for marketing home based businesses, computer software or software specific to learning.

Blog Social Networks or group topic Social Networks are growing by leaps and bounds and are quite on fire these days, where about a year or so ago they were usually smaller sites interactive with existing reality groups, meaning teachers and their students, sports teams, hobbyists in the here and now who get together regularly to meet but needed a site to communicate through when they were apart.

The Wikis at Wetpaint and the Group Social Ning Networks are varied and cover many topics. Over one million Wetpaint Wikis today and growing and many Ning sites as well. Most sites like this have a discussion or forum area, messaging between members, friending capabilities, a personal profile area, community home page, a page to keep you up to date with the sites โ€œWhats Newโ€, pretty much the same sorts of set ups as the MySpace and Facebook mega sites.

The drawbacks are minimal at this point, but some of these drawbacks to the โ€œMinorโ€ Social Networks can be devastating. What if the owner of the site suddenly decides to shut it down? Yes, delete it off the Internet. Well, it happens but this leaves you with the choice to then create your own. This particular drawback does not and will not readily happen with the MySpaces and Facebooks of the net.

The โ€œHave It Your Wayโ€ Blog Social Networks are cool to join because you are focused upon attendance. For instance, at a โ€œMajorโ€ Social Network like MySpace, you are generally on different discussion topics with many different types of friends. Some may be business type friends, some are in the gardening group you belong to, some talk to you about photography, others you met through Twitter or through blogging. So, you are faced with many topics and many people all at the same time instead of talking about only one or two subjects and focusing on the issues. After about an hour or so (maybe less), you may feel a bit scattered with the larger Social Networks.

With the smaller โ€œHave It Your Wayโ€ Blog Social Networks, there is a given discussion line. You visit these sites to see whats happening on that particular topic, not scattered through a realm of topical discussion at a โ€œMajorโ€ Social Network. Are you planning to visit New York, New York City, or Central Park? Are you going to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida or the Magic Kingdom? A much more narrow spectrum where you can usually find the information you seek quite readily with the Blog Social Networks.

I have found a few very good ones that I will list below:

{September 6, 2008}   Basic HTML

Basic HTML

You can use basic HTML in many ways and in various places. You can change simple things by making your font bolder, bigger, or smaller by using the simplest of codes. You can create page breaks and separate your paragraphs or thoughts. Change the color of your font, create a text link, or place a picture or graphic image on your web site.If you have not yet copied and pasted a graphic or background lay-out onto a web page or a social network site such as My Space, give that a try. It will show you a great example of what an HTML code actually looks like. Study it for a few minutes to get a good look at the tweaks that could be made to any code to change just a bit of the end result.

We use HTML at social networks, on web pages, and in solo advertisements for business marketers.

Basic HTML will make your page or advertisements stand out from the crowd. Get noticed and learn a bit of HTML.

To change your font and make it show a bit of your personality or to make it jump out of the page, you will need these basic HTML codes. I will be putting spaces between the characters here to be able to post this on an area that uses HTML. When you type this, leave no spaces between the characters. Making your font bolder only requires you to type < b >. Typing in multiple sets will create an even bolder font. At the end of the word or phrase you wish to be bold, type. This code will close the bold print.

You can make your font bigger or smaller as well by using the code < big > or < small > and then closing it off with or . That is the extent of it. It is really this easy to do.

If you need a separation between ideas, thoughts, or paragraphs then use the code < Br >. If you would like a double space between the text, type two or more in a row, all touching with no spaces. This is best used with graphic images and photos, or banners and music players. It prevents the images from running together and creates a much cleaner page view.

Another neat little trick is changing your font color. Red jumps right off the page, blue is a very mellow and calming color, and yellow when used with a combination of red and black makes a very bold statement. This code is very simple and looks like this, < font >. Now, with this code, you can either just type the color name into โ€œthe colorโ€ area or do a quick search for HTML font color codes and replace โ€œthe colorโ€ with the actual color code number given on the site you find. Close the color with.

How about adding a text link to your web site or social page? Again, simple once you see it a few times. This is what it looks like. You will need to replace the yoursitehere with your web page link and TextLink with whatever you want to show as your link text.

EXAMPLE: <โ€A target=โ€_newโ€ HREF=โ€โ€>textlink</A>

Like This:ย  Visit our <A HREF=โ€โ€>site</A>

Again, I have created spaces where there should be none to ensure readability. If I posted this on an HTML compatible page it would not show anything except the useable link called textlink. The only space needed in this code is the one between the first A and the HREF. That one is an important and essential space. There is an easy shortcut to image codes. Uploading a stored photo or image from your computer to a site called Tiny Pic will get you your image code straight away. Just copy and paste into your project. The easiest by far. The wealth of information on and about using, viewing, and learning the basic HTML code is a search engine away. My goal is to enlighten you and show you that you can do it too. That it isnโ€™t as difficult as we all may have thought it was and doing it correctly is within reach.
