{March 28, 2009}   Health Social Networks

Health social networks are not extremely numerous, but are very helpful for those seeking to gain knowledge that their doctor may not be able to offer. Either time constraints or even lack of the newest information sometimes prevents your doctor from being able to fill you in on the details πŸ™‚

Health social networks do wonders to help inform and has an added bonus of actually interacting with others who are dealing with the same health challenges or who have already gone through it.

Myspace Graphics
Myspace Comments

Checking out a health social network in the waiting period of a test or just to find out more is such a blessing in this age of the Internet. Searching for specifics is often difficult. The time taken while sorting through the masses of results given when trying to locate helpful sites on, for instance, cancer, can be overwhelming. Going to a interactive social networking site focused health and wellness issues generally will gain far greater and more case specific search results.

While doing searches for these health related social networks, I noticed that they were actually few and far between with most being forum style set ups. These are useful as they allow interaction, but are also a bit limited and sometimes difficult to sort through a 1000 plus thread post topic. Which member of the forum posted the best information and will we then need to read through all 1000 plus posts to find our answer?

trusera

There were only a few health social networks that really stood out. One being Trusera. A recent event has left them in need of partners, but they will be alive and well until at least late April, 2009. Trusera is a true health related, topic oriented, information filled social network. Interacting with like members who are either going through or have been where others are now in their health challenges. Remaining anonymous is easy or you can choose to be as open as you wish while connecting in a social setting to find answers to your health questions or to offer up a health related experience of your own. Getting practical answers and insight from others just like yourself during stressful times is calming.

breastcancer1

The power of having been there is incredible to someone who is currently “going through” a health related situation. The site for breast cancer that I found is a forum based interaction site to gain knowledge of side effects, get answers to your testing questions, treatment choices, and research information related specifically to breast cancer issues. BreastCancer.org comes complete with support and community connections.

webmd

WebMD is probably the most well known social type health network for not only finding and connecting with other people like you, but for the wealth of health related information at their fingertips. From blogs to message boards to being able to ask the experts, this health stockpile has it all covered. Discover links to other health issue sites, meet a multitude of individuals from all over the Internet, and get a peace of mind that only detailed knowledge can bring. WebMD has headline news, polls, a pill identifier, locate a doctor or hospital in your area, or browse through the health centers topic list to find the answers you are looking for.

googleehealth

Google Health, while not exactly a health social network is an outstanding resource for communicating your total health information to your newest doctor or at an emergency room visit to keep the physician aware of what treatments you are getting or have received in the past. This awareness is paramount especially if you are taking medication. Google Health allows it’s users to input securely their medical information from every individual hospital, doctor, or medical center, keeping all in one place to ensure the whole of it all gets to the eyes of each health care provider you encounter. A system like this absolutely will stop medication conflicts if filled in correctly and could head off problems before they can begin. Google Health puts you in charge of your health information safely, securely, and best of all it is free.

medstory

Locating other health social networks, forums, and information is easy when you know which search engine to use. Google has topic specific search engines as a starting point, but I found MedStory. A health information search engine currently in Beta testing. If you need more avenues than mentioned here, check into MedStory for more.

We wanted to venture into the realm of “In The News” Blogs and Social Networks. Actually a difficult subject to search on the net. What you get with searching for Blogs and Social Networks that contain “News” are which Blog platforms or Social Networks Are In The News πŸ™‚

Many Blogs and Social Networks that we came across were mostly “Second Hand News” but, in reality, if you aren’t On The Sceen reporting as it happens, all news is somewhat that πŸ™‚

fox

For the best in “Weather News”, we found Weather.Fox.com for all you land based weather junkies out there (like me :), If you are a boater, maybe not (this is NOAA :), but for land based dwellers who want to meet and greet other weather buffs, this is the place πŸ™‚ Upload photos, videos, create blogs, visit the forum, and make friends. Coolies to Fox for creating a Weather News Social Network where you can get your extended forecast, favorite blog posts, set a featured weather photo, get weather questions answered on Tropical Weather, Storm Chasing, Climate Change, Weather Around the World, Read Weather stories or post your own! Complete with a Meebo Chat! Getting News and views from Meteorologists, seasoned Weather Announcers, Bloggers, and Regular Joes πŸ™‚

A different “take” on a News site is AvatarsUnited.com πŸ™‚ A site for your Gaming Avatar (from the perspective of the Avatar, not your personal perspective πŸ™‚ so, if you want the skinny on what Avatars are doing in game, check it out πŸ™‚

usatoday

How about some sites for Real Headline News πŸ™‚ USA Todays Community Connecting Readers to Reporting (easy to set up a profile here and free), is a very fast site for both navigation and uploading photos or profile adjustments. Hop right over to the main USA Today page to comment on or recommend an article and one click away to the Blogs area! They make it easy to add favorites Blog Titles to your home page and widgets πŸ™‚ The most popular headline widget is nice! USA Today also offers a “Green News” widget for climate and weather headlines, both of which I put I placed on the front page of my new site for news InTheNews.Wetpaint.com, a place to “See” the Headline News at a glance using the very coolest of widgets, so you know which News is what you want to read πŸ™‚ If you need a dose of or want to scan the headlines, stop by πŸ™‚ Links to all the main In The News sites πŸ™‚

USA Today Community also offers free to use widgets for Finance, Celeb Watch with Will Keck, USA Today Sports Headlines, Politics, Pop Candy with Whitney Matheson for the latest News and Trends in Music, TV, Books, Video, Movies, Celebrity Interviews and finding the best sites. There’s Today in the Sky with Ben Mutzabaugh for airline news and Top Travel Stories, so, an incredible selection of In The News widgets for your Blogs and Social Networks at USA Today Community πŸ™‚ These widgets work with PageFlakes, iGoogle, Facebook, TypePad, NetVibe, Blogger, MySpace, and sites like InTheNews.wetpaint.com πŸ™‚

My main motivation for creating this blog style social network In The News viewing site was because it was so difficult to find social networks that were for people who wanted differing News stories from different broadcasters all in one glance πŸ™‚ I find it nice to have all the Headlines in one spot, then be able to click to view the stories I want to read more of. Spending time actually reading instead of searching πŸ™‚

While Mashable.com is not a social network (well, not yet anyway) the following for this blog is huge because people want to know the Technology News, Internet News, and ideas over at Mashable πŸ™‚

Internet.com is the network for Technology proffessionals with newsletters, products, and special offers is something for techies to see! Applications and Internet Development, Job Functions and Occupations, Information Technology, Linux News, E Commerce Guides, WeboPedia Daily, Database Journal, Server Watch, Hardware Central, Sharky Extreme, BlackBerry Today,Β  and Wifi Planet are just a few of the newsletters and special offers you have a choice of when you sign up with Internet.com.

For an intense listing of Sports Social Networks check out JasonFPeck.com, he has quite the list of Sports Social Networks and seems to know much more about Sports than Stevie and I πŸ™‚ Sports Social Media at Take A Peck! Great site Jason πŸ™‚

Another awesome News for Gamers Based Social Network (especially for Spore lovers) is SporeIllustrated.wetpaint.com πŸ™‚

For Celebrity News check out TwilightMovie.org or JamesBondWiki.com

{February 22, 2009}   Blogs – Types of Blogs

Having made step by step videos on How To navigate and use different blog platforms and How To use the blogging areas on some of the big social networks like MySpace, Facebook, and My Yearbook,Β  but then … what do you write about?

zimbio

Types of Blogs You Can Create πŸ™‚

Topic Blogs – Actually this site BlogsAndSocialNetworks.com is a “Topic” blog, so is VideoGamesAndGaming.com, but these two are also a How To blog as well. Any broad, general, global, town related subject whether it’s a “World” blog or just a State, your topic can be Animals in the World (broad topic) or Primates in the Jungle (a bit more narrow) or Chimps in the NY Zoo (very specific πŸ™‚ Americans is a great topic as well, Ben Franklin for example. You could post about him for a whole month, then next month post on George Washington πŸ™‚

Topic blogs have such a diverse inclusion like Fashion, Travel, Dreams, My Trip, Educational Institutions, Cats, etc. Many choices here. Write what you love πŸ™‚

Salesy Web Site Blogs – Sites that look a Christmas Sale at the Mall with Flashy Banners, Sales Fluff around every corner. These do attract attention to some and may work for you.

Photo Sites – A great Photo style blog can be found at ParisDailyPhoto.com but it is any chosen photo you select to “be” the blog and add a line or few of explanation or interest, location … etc. to your picture πŸ™‚

Journal Blogs – A great example of a journal style blog is Wavecritter.LiveJournal.com or SurfPiccasso2001.LiveJournal.com Stevies blog is a journal style, write as you sort of story teller or what’s up with my day or life type blog πŸ™‚

VLogs or Video Blogs – Of course the best place to see a VLog is at a Video Social Network at someones profile page like me πŸ™‚ YouTube.com/Wavecritter I have a bunch of friends there that have very different styles of VLogs too which are easy to find at YouTube, like a musician style where they play and take videos of either them on stage or create a story video to go with their songs; “Let’s Talk” sort of videos, How To, Real Life, and more.

Explanation or Definition Blogs – These are quite similar to the How To style blogs but are mostly like a Wikipedia style topic blog that gives a detailed explanation with examples πŸ™‚ They don’t need to be using the Wikipedia platform of course, but this one on Blog is a good example. A really great Explanation blog will have many resource links to other relevant posts or sites.

Review Blogs – These are usually quite helpful blogs in general as you can open up several and see what different views there are out there on any given iten, topic, company, laundry soap lol, or whatever you are looking for opinions on. To write this style blog you will need to have more than an idea of the subject. If you do a review site on restaraunts for example, you would be a person who frequently visits new restaraunts and has a grasp of a great dining out experience with out being hyper critical. Point out the pros and cons so to speak πŸ™‚ If you write a review style blog, you could link to the items that you review for more link backs, information, or to monetize your site if these are your items on Amazon or EBay.

List Blogs – This is a fun way to blog. 7 ways to bake a cake, 11 types of tennis shoes, 8 reasons why you should exercise, 100 favorite songs of the year, the top 5 social networks, etc. With a list style blog, you can start a post with the original list, then take each (#1, #2, etc.) and make an in depth post on each number, it will get you a whole series of posts and help you with your posts πŸ™‚

Group, Team, or Company Style Blogs – A site for any specific organization, group or team. This type of blog is geared toward your members of the company, pack, sports organization, guild, or party to get information out to them. A communication type blog just for a specific sector of people.

Most blogs fall into one or more (or a subset) of these categories, but as categories go, they could be sub divided into many, many more smaller or specific types like with the Topic Blog especially πŸ™‚

Lokking at the list of blog types that WordPress has will help you as well. This list will keep you clear of the No-No Types of Blogs to create πŸ™‚

Have fun with your blog and write what you are passionate about or you may not be blogging long out of boredom πŸ™‚

Checking into MyBlogLog and Zimbio will get you some additonal blog attention!

{January 30, 2009}   Rearrange Your MySpace Music List

With all of the new and exciting changes and “tweaks” going on over at MySpace, I wanted to touch on the reordering or rearranging of your coolie, the music playlist πŸ™‚ Since the widget at Project Playlist has been basically “shut down” and not allowed at MySpace, the use of the actual MySpace music player has emerged as the front runner for music expression even among listeners. Musicians had been using the MySpace music widget predominately but a large percentage of listeners were using the Project Playlist widget instead. (A brilliant music site by the way πŸ™‚

But, let’s discover how to reorder your music selections on MySpace playlists πŸ™‚

mymusic1

Ok, if I wanted to change up this playlist, I would right click the song (just about where the red arrow is located) hold it for a second while dragging it in the order I wanted it to show up.

mymusic2

I just changed up the order of the last two songs from the Crash Test Dummies (great band πŸ™‚ in my playlist …

mymusic3

Log into MySpace, click on Music, then click on My Music, My Public Playlists, My Profile Playlist. This is how you will get to the screen you see above πŸ™‚ Reorder the music by dragging and dropping, add songs you find by browsing by clicking the plus signs, a drop down for lists choice will come, if you want it on your sites playlist, choose “My Profile Playlist”.

Browse the featured playlists for some quick popular song choices πŸ™‚

We often hear the word “focus” in the same context as blogging instruction but what does it really mean and who does it really mean it for?

Focus in the blogging platform or social networking world refers to shooting toward reaching your “target” audience. Who would you like to visit your social networks and read your blog sites? What demographic? Now, why would the blogs and social networks person care who came to visit? Marketing to be precise.

If a blogger is marketing a particular product, they would then care very much who came to see their sites. For example) If your product was a health and wellness sort of “Vitamin” product, then a “Get Healthy or “Stay Healthy” sort of blog would hit the nail on the head to some degree. What if the product is “Vitamin D”? Then focus would get you to a site much more focused on bone health instead of overall health.

Who else would want to focus their sites? If you aren’t marketing a product but would like to gain a high rating with Google, become an expert, or just have a very popular site full of specific information, then focus is for you πŸ™‚

Do Stevie and Stephanie at Blogs and Social Networks focus? I can’t say that we do actually πŸ™‚ Encompassing the entire subject of Blogs and Social Networks (and not that we even come close to hitting every site) is not really a very focused, specific topic. To hold true to many blogging platforms, we have many blogs specifically geared towards Blogs and Social Networks and are members of multiple social networks. It is rather a broad subject area but holds a great example of what it means to go smaller from it and more focused.

Blogs and Social Networks …

Social Networks That Have Blog Capability …

MySpace and Facebook …

Or You could go from Blogs and Social Networks …

to Blogs about Social Networks …

then onto blogs about MySpace and Facebook …

or to be less focused, blogs about the major social networks.

Recall why we focus again, to appeal to a group who will more likely be interested in our topics, information, and offers.

Sometimes focus is not important. A very wide spectrum blog works quite well and attracts visitors. The blog remains on a subject, but a very wide subject much like Blogs and Social Networks or Video Games and Gaming. Again, with Video Games and Gaming, this can become much more focused a topic …

Video Games and Gaming …

Console Games …

Wii Games …

Wii Fit Games …

Or you can choose to create sub sections (or pages) of your blog (or create a wiki at wetpaint) to house focused topics like this but name your blog a wider topic name.

Once the understanding of why a blogger is told to focus comes into … well … errr … “focus” … then it becomes clear whether or not you actually should decide to look into it all or not. Are you trying to reach a “target” audience? or do you just want to be sure that your writings are helping whoever searches that info out?

With searches, keywords really take the drivers seat here. How do visitors actually find what you have? Think about your tags, labels and keywords (all one in the same, with just a different name at different blog site platforms) What will those ask who wish to find your answers? How you label and categorize your posts matters greatly to the seeker of your posts. If you have a post on How To Make Ice Cream, then your top keywords probably should be: Ice Cream, Ice Cream How To, How To Make Ice Cream, Frozen Desserts, and Dessert Recipes. Then add your name or alias (Stephanie Haile aka Wavecritter) (author title) as another keyword, you could use the blog platform as another if you wished (ie: WordPress, Blog Talk Radio, Blogger) and then peruse through your post for a few select keyword phrases running together in the text and standing out. Use these as well (In this post it would be “Blogging instruction” blogging Platform” or Social Networking”). There you go, you just greatly assisted your visitors in arriving at your information πŸ™‚

However much you really wish to focus on your blogs and social networks in this manner is entirely up to you … do remember that every person is unique, every blog is unique, and every social network is unique and that each has it’s own attractions for a reason … they are all different πŸ™‚ Cookie cutter is not generally the way to go to become different, although you could begin with the design and “color” or “decorate” it however you like πŸ™‚

With a very focused blog site, focused right from the creation date on , you will need to think about where to actually get the word out or “effectively market” this site. Groups (first and foremost) in the social networking communities are the number one best places to market an on topic blog. Probably placing a link on a Gardening blog in a group on fishing is not going to be your first choice group πŸ™‚ But, possible the people at the fishing group are also interested in gardening as well and it may do some good πŸ™‚ Seek out the gardening groups to introduce your gardening blog to first though πŸ™‚

Your keywords will be the “behind the scenes” marking engine for you while you manually market your site to and through other Blogs and Social Networks sites. Getting backlinks is quite easy. Log into your blog platform (ie: WordPress, Blogspot, Vox, Livejournal …) then browse through other blog sites on the same platform, either on your topic or on another, comment on their posts as you view some sites. Each comment you leave (while logged in) will send a link back to your site via the “icon” or username info left on the comment πŸ™‚ Nope, you don’t really need to “rely” on friends to actually list you on their blogroll.

Use your blog URL as part of every bio, info, or profile area on all of your social networks and think about securing a clever domain name for your blog site πŸ™‚ I chose BlogsAndSocialNetworks.info , .com , , .org , and .net for our main blog platforms (Wetpaint, WordPress, Blog Talk Radio, and Blogspot). One is fine, there is no need to get all (info, com, net, etc) this way when you redirect the domain to your blog URL, it is now a much easier name to remember. BlogsAndSocialNetworks.com is easier (I hope lol) than Wavecritter.Wordpress.com for instance.

These are some good tips, we will be writing some more soon. Stay tuned for Blogs And Social Networks

The numerous social networks that surround the Video Games and Gaming World are not only growing by leaps and bounds, but also attracting extremely loyal and tenacious fans. Mixing, melding, and forging the uber pwnage of video gamers and the interaction of a social networking togetherness you only get with an online cooperation formed into a web site.

Chat rooms and forums; in game chat and party groups; and guilds and clans design the social aspect of the online gaming industry. From the simplicity of the flash based games like Ogre Island, to the complex downloadable PC console games like World of Warcraft the online gaming world has come from a diverse beginning.

The earliest PC games of Solitaire, Backgammon, Pinball, and Hearts warped into a series of Doom style RPG’s. Most of this original game play was solitary. With the invention of Its Your Turn’s creative ingenuity, we began to take solitary turns together. One player at a time taking his or her play turn and sending email alerts to the other as the game progresses. Ultima Online was a major player in the MMORPG sector of social interaction in gaming. With the emergence of Blizzard Entertainment came the opportunity for gamers across the nation to connect and compete in mass PVP wars complete with a pre game chat feature. This feature allows you to socialize and chat with other players before actually entering game play to better know your opponents and allies.

Soon after came the outbreak of in game chat. While chat boxes early on were extremely basic only allowing simple text and minimal emote options, they have evolved into a major beast powering the gaming industries social connection and actually spawning new ideas for development. These new chat features include multiple chat channels and hundreds of emotes which are text commands that create sound and motions. Examples are: /hug, /wave, /dance and for you Age of Empires players /boo which will play an audible audience of “booers” dissing your opponent.

Game developers are increasing the time spent on statistics figuring out how to leverage and apply growth to social networks by introducing new and competitive games, creating a subset of gamers in the social networking arena of the Internet. Global reach has unlimited the geography factor by initializing influence to an audience if infinite proportion. While gamers have always been cloned into a bundle, class, or faction of their own, seemingly separate and disconnected from the masses involved in the online social networking movement, I say gamers are the force behind the socialization age of technology.

In your quest for virtual worlds, social networks, and online community interactions, keep your Eagle Eye Hunter ability activated and begin to notice the explosion that is online video games and gaming.

Check out some of these coolies for some video games and gaming social network interaction:

No need to worry about this at all if you have a notepad or other saver system in your my documents, just copy and paste straight from your “about me” section of your social network directly to a save section in your documents, notepad, word, or other program. Then after the special event, holiday, or new creation for your layout, background, or profile, you can always copy and paste it right back into your “about me” or other section of your profile layout area.

As you build your new layout by adding your choice contact table, cursor, falling objects, graphics, sounds, and more, label the order of each as you go or always choose the same order. Place enter spaces between each item and you will know which is which by counting down the order, if your cursor is always third and your background is always last, you will know which to change if you aren’t happy with the final outcome and overall look of your layout.

Using CSS profile backgrounds and layouts with sites like Friendster and Ning is very different in the “tweaking” of the premade layouts than the regular HTML codes used at sites like MySpace and Blogspot. The sheer number of premade layouts available not only makes this layout process easier by copying and pasting the entire code, you also get a first hand look at the coding. Later on, when you start thinking about learning a bit more to adjust these codes, having viewed them already, will help in your understanding greatly when you go to “tweak” them.

Halloween Ning layouts and Friendster layouts are CSS codes which many profile, background, and layout sites have already set up with premade designs and the wealth of premade layouts for HTML coding profile Blogs and Social Networks will actually make the choosing a difficult process.

Along with the numerous graphics, generators, countdown tables, contact boxes, animations, comments, and more, many sites host the coolest of backgrounds and layout designs for Halloween and other holidays.

Some of the sites I found that sport some great selections of Halloween Layouts for your Social Network profiles include: Wish A Friend with twenty-four pages of choice Halloween design layouts including a variety from very mild, children quality designs to scary graveyards to some gore; Halloween Joys has a site that offers some fairly decent, creepy animated GIFs along with some easy to post Halloween Flash Games and an interesting History and Traditions of Halloween section; Graphics Arcade is a site mostly for a good selection of Halloween Graphics. Their Halloween Layouts are a bit limited in number but they may just have the one you were looking for; Cool Holiday Graphics and Holiday Joys are yet a few more with some interesting Halloween Graphics, Layouts, and Backgrounds.

Firebug for the Firefox browser has an addon to edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and Javascript live on any webpage. This may be an answer for you to successfully “tweak” your codings.

Enjoying the Holidays with an attractive, time sensitive, stirring profile layout is just another exciting part of sharing Blogs and Social Networks with the Internet World.

Blogs and Social Networks Move Over MySpace and Facebook

Move over MySpace and Facebook, people are starting to lose the β€œtaste” for the really big Social Networks and want to β€œHave it Their Way”, you know, hold the pickle, a bit more ketchup, but in this case… Lets turn a β€œHuge Group” from MySpace or Facebook into a Social Network! Instead of visiting a Mass Social Network to find your group, you will either create your own Group Social Network or join an existing one centered around your interest!Sort of β€œReverse Social Networking” but if you give it some thought, it is really the way it was going in the beginning. Take a look at how Forum sites got started, by topic, by a group of like minded individuals, seekers of conversation )The Forum would usually cover a broad topic and each conversation or β€œthread” would then funnel the topic down to a more specific conversation title. Well, thats whats happening and with a Bang at the Blog Social Networks like Ning and Wetpaint!

People are gathering all of their chosen β€œcolored blocks” from the Internet bin and putting them all in a handy sorting tank set up as a Blog Social Network. What am I saying about these bin blocks? Each category or β€œcolor” block, sorted out into music, sports, business, photography, art, beach lovers, snowmen, or any topic really is either kept as a large category or narrowed down even further into sub categories. All blue blocks for instance, or all sky blue blocks. Sub categories could include things like a specific band or music style, a type of health and wellness business, a site for marketing or a site for marketing home based businesses, computer software or software specific to learning.

Blog Social Networks or group topic Social Networks are growing by leaps and bounds and are quite on fire these days, where about a year or so ago they were usually smaller sites interactive with existing reality groups, meaning teachers and their students, sports teams, hobbyists in the here and now who get together regularly to meet but needed a site to communicate through when they were apart.

The Wikis at Wetpaint and the Group Social Ning Networks are varied and cover many topics. Over one million Wetpaint Wikis today and growing and many Ning sites as well. Most sites like this have a discussion or forum area, messaging between members, friending capabilities, a personal profile area, community home page, a page to keep you up to date with the sites β€œWhats New”, pretty much the same sorts of set ups as the MySpace and Facebook mega sites.

The drawbacks are minimal at this point, but some of these drawbacks to the β€œMinor” Social Networks can be devastating. What if the owner of the site suddenly decides to shut it down? Yes, delete it off the Internet. Well, it happens but this leaves you with the choice to then create your own. This particular drawback does not and will not readily happen with the MySpaces and Facebooks of the net.

The β€œHave It Your Way” Blog Social Networks are cool to join because you are focused upon attendance. For instance, at a β€œMajor” Social Network like MySpace, you are generally on different discussion topics with many different types of friends. Some may be business type friends, some are in the gardening group you belong to, some talk to you about photography, others you met through Twitter or through blogging. So, you are faced with many topics and many people all at the same time instead of talking about only one or two subjects and focusing on the issues. After about an hour or so (maybe less), you may feel a bit scattered with the larger Social Networks.

With the smaller β€œHave It Your Way” Blog Social Networks, there is a given discussion line. You visit these sites to see whats happening on that particular topic, not scattered through a realm of topical discussion at a β€œMajor” Social Network. Are you planning to visit New York, New York City, or Central Park? Are you going to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida or the Magic Kingdom? A much more narrow spectrum where you can usually find the information you seek quite readily with the Blog Social Networks.

I have found a few very good ones that I will list below:

{September 9, 2008}   Which Blogs and Social Networks?

Which Blogs and Social Networks are you comfortable and, dare I say Proud, to put your John Hancock on? I have noticed lately that some “very salesy” or “opinionated on a topic” sites do not have a “Real Name” signature to their posts. We mostly all have a nickname, or username, or other name we use as our log ins or names that show up when we post, but what about as a signature at the end of your posts? Or a profile set up so others can find out more about you?

The trend for anonymity is interesting to me. Blog Talk Radio users often have a “Handle”, if you will, bloggers use their code names (ie: Wavecritter lol),Β  Truck Drivers have always done this “On The Radio” as well with CBs.

The ones whose name is synonymous with their pass names fall into a different category than those who have sites without this information. Sometimes people worry that their views will not be accepted by the masses, others have issues with their profession or business views conflicted with their personal views. At times I have seen rather banner laden or very salesy sites without any personal contact information at all, to these sites maybe a rethink. Maybe rethink if you do not feel comfortable putting your name on the site, well, you know what I mean πŸ™‚ But, if your personal views conflict with your professional life, then quite understandable but rather unfortunate as well to be in this circumstance. Personal views, in my opinion ;), shouldn’t be clouded or hidden from view unless they are harmful. Silvia Richardson sent me something on this topic, a link to her blog is below πŸ˜‰

http://angelamongstus-bleuet.blogspot.com/

“Keep this philosophy in mind the next time you hear or are about to repeat a rumor.
In ancient Greece (469 – 399 BC), Socrates was widely known for his wisdom. One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance, who ran up to him excitedly and said, “Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students…?”

“Wait a moment,” Socrates replied. “Before you tell me, I’d like you to pass a little test. It’s called the Test of Three.”

“The TEST of THREE?” the man asked.

That’s correct,” Socrates continued. “Before you talk to me about my student let’s take a moment to test what you’re going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?”

“No,” the man replied, “actually I just heard about it.”

“All right,” said Socrates. “So you don’t really know if it’s true or not. Now let’s try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?”

“No, on the contrary… ”

“So,” Socrates continued, “you want to tell me something bad about him even though you’re not certain it’s true?”

The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.

Socrates continued, “You may still pass though because there is a third test — the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be useful to me?”

“No, not really . . ”

“Well,” concluded Socrates, “if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?”

The man was defeated and ashamed and said no more.

This is the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.”

Podcasting is too cool 4 school actually and if you are missing the boat, well you better swim 4 it πŸ™‚

To view a very informative post on Podcasting with Blog Talk Radio and ITunes visit www.BlogsandSocialNetworks.net

But for more on podcasting … here we goooo…

Let’s cover video podcasting in this post and first start out with how cool Windows Movie Maker is, that it is already on your computer probably if you have a Windows based system and it is quite complimentary (meaning free, of course, but also it compliments podcasting in that its creations can then become video or audio podcasts, neato).

I have a step by step video at YouTube.com/user/wavecritter on How To Windows Movie Maker if you care to view that one, or there are many more out there to get you informed on how to get going creating your own videos to turn into a podcast at YouTube just by uploading it onto your channel. YouTube calls your personal storage area/profile a channel because it is your area to let your friends and viewers watch your videos πŸ™‚

Back to the easy, cheesy, lemon squeezy Windows Movie Maker, get into it, what R U waiting for? You too can capture your imagination for the World to see and enjoy πŸ™‚ Play around and no worries.

Visit YouTube.com/blog for all of the YouTube updates and then YouTube.com/testtube for some total coolies with YouTube! You can also reach these sites by visiting your YouTube channel and clicking on community above on the tabs, awesome.

Onto one of the coolest free download audio tools out there Audacity.

A bit technical it seems at first, but never fear and no worries here, not near the learning curve of some other podcasting tools like Camtasia and others. I actually am making a How to Video on this Audacity as well that will soon be on YouTube πŸ™‚

Everyone who is active or just a weekly visitor the Social Network Scene should fully be aware how to spot a “Scary” and how to handle yourself NOT deal with them. You see, there is no “dealing” with them as they are generally not rational thinkers who exist in the same plane of life rules and morals as most people do.

Of course, the very best, hands down way to avoid the scaries is make your profile private and only invite and except friends that you already know well. They can still ask to become your friend, and judging a book by its cover is never the way to go. If you are going to go private, only accept your friends.

Another way to avoid the scaries is to first go and take a look at their profiles, look at their top friends, read their about me section. If you have any doubt, trust yourself and don’t add them.

If you are a female and a guy is looking to “get to know you better” check out the top friends list. Is it all girls? Are they half dressed? Ummmmm… there’s a clue. Same, only reversed if you are a guy. Although, some guys dig that (double standard you know:)

If you receive an unwanted message, do NOT send one back explaining that you no longer want messages πŸ™‚ If, indeed, they are creepy, you will not get the support you need from the sites administrator because you also contacted them.

What these scaries sometime do, is blast out the same exact messages to numerous people who “fit their Profile”. Then they wait to see who answers them. They then weed through the replys to find the reply they are looking for. I personally have not crawled into the mind of the scaries to exactly what they are looking for, so I cannot help here. I can express my certainty though that if you do not answer, you are far more likely NOT to answer what they are looking for πŸ™‚

Don’t let it get to you, and don’t do anything stupid if people spread rumors about you. Too many senseless suicides from teenagers to adults. Focus not on what was done to you, focus on anything else. Visit other social networks for a while, stay away and try not to even think on it. Sometimes a very difficult proposition at best, if you cannot get it all out of your thoughts, stay off the computer for a while. Get out, do something fun.

If the problem lies with “so-called” friends that attend your school, work, or interact with you daily, then you may need to approach this a bit differently. First, you will need to talk to family, teachers, principle, good neighbor, or other “real” friends about this, instead of “hiding” it all and attempting to deal with this all yourself, talk to a guidance counselor, security guard, or other named individual above.

Always remain better than them by not stooping to the muckraking levels. Trying to be evil and nasty when your nature is the opposite will be just like leaving your home town to walk around the streets of a crazy, dangerous city. You don’t know how to navigate it, you won’t know which way to turn, but these scaries are quite practiced in their nasty ways and know exactly which way to turn, what vehicle to use, and where the authorities hang out. A fish out of water is where you would be. AND… what will the people you tell about this situation think when you are doing the exact same thing to those scaries in retaliation as they did to you? Don’t play the game at all. They always make up the rules as they go along anyway, so there is no way to combat it alone.

{June 25, 2008}   Avoid The “Scaries”

There are some incredible and remarkable on the Internet today. But, what does incredible and remarkable mean exactly? Most people see these words as positive from the first read or at first hearing. But, incredible could mean “so extraordinary as to seem impossible” OR it also means “not credible; hard to believe; unbelievable” Hmmmmm? Not credible? Quite another take from the norm and the masses, yes? Then, let’s take a gander at the word Remarkable. Seth Godin says that remarkable simply means “something other people remark about” πŸ™‚

Now, we all remark about incredible things like Home Runs, Perfect touchdowns, Beautiful Houses, Head Line News, Informative Blogs, and of course, The Weather. πŸ™‚

We remark about both the “bad” and “good” in things. This blog topic is going to cover the remarkable in the arena of “Scaries On The Net”.

There is a certain (unnamed) site out there who lets its visitors remain completely anonymous while bashing and dissing anyone, anytime, about anything, true or not with absolutely no owning up to the post whatsoever.

This is just an embarrassment to the site, the owner, and to to the faceless, nameless, cowards who read, post, and bash people while being AFRAID to use their own name as the author.

Spreading evil, nasty rumors online, speaking badly of others to the World, is GOING to come back to you whether you believe it is not or don’t believe it. Liars Lie, Cheaters Cheat, Manipulators Manipulate, and Users Use. End of line. So, what can people who do not do this do about them? ….. Absolutely nothing! What we can do is decide how WE are going to deal with situations, How WE handle ourselves in this line of fire, abuse, and being taken advantage of.

Contrary to popular belief it is NOT Human nature to wish, do, or create bad situations for others. It is NOT Human nature to step on, HATE, or otherwise dismember an individual because that person is jealous, powerful, or just because they CAN.

If someone has harmed you, the more attention you focus on that situation, the more fuel you feed the fire. On most social networks you are able to send the inappropriate message to the Administrator of the site, if there is not an option to do this, plain and simply, do not visit that social network. Find friendlier social networks to enjoy.

Part 2 Of “Avoid The Scaries” will come tommorow…

Enjoy!
